chalkboard wall. servant warrior style.

A new chalkboard with a new focus. This started with something for our biggest baby, but has turned into something for the whole family. It’s a little thing we like to call… being a servant warrior.

The theme for this month? Working hard to be a family of SERVANT WARRIORS.

Why? Oh, I always have a reason why.
This all came to be a some time ago were having some serious talks with our oldest lil’ man about his choices. We were seeing a pattern of forgetting about the importance of putting others first, selfish choices and thinking of just himself. After way too many talks, uplifting {I thought} speeches and being at our last straw we came up with something to help him practice the art of thinking of others first, you know being a servant warrior.

After a few weeks of our Mr. G practicing this we noticed a huge difference and his little bro wanted to be a part of it too. So, we decided to turn it into a family thing. We are all doing it together and working hard to make it a {norm} in our house and our life.

Love this? Well, you should really thank my amazing {and smart} other half. The hubs came up with this during one of our {parenting brainstorm sessions}. Please tell me we are not the only ones who have seshs on how to deal with those menaces, I mean cuties, of ours.

This is a theme for my husband. He truly is a perfect example of a servant warrior, always putting others first and working to be a servant in all things. I want my boys to grow up and be just like him. He is an amazing role model for what this ‘looks’ like in life. Whelp, no time like the present to start helping our kids to be servant warriors, right?

Our board is a reminder of what we are all working on as a family…. being SERVANT WARRIORS. To help bring this to life I created some cards to fill out and we sat down with the kids to explain how it works. The gist of it is fill out a card, add it to the jar and each month we will celebrate with a dinner out {winner with most cards chooses!} and we read everything our family did over the month to be servant warriors.

And for those perfectionists who are just like me and love the art of stencils, attached are the font templates I whipped up to get the board finished a little faster. Yes, I sit, analyze and nit-pick my writing, so sometimes I enlist the help of my computer and some tracing {see a how to here} to get it just right in a little less time. See? You really can whip up a chalkboard, even if you think you are not the artsy type!

I already can see the impact it is making in our family. The kids come home each day and make sure they fill out at least one thing they have already done. I love it. No joke.

Next week, I will share a template for the servant warrior cards and some strategies we used to kick it off. I hope you’re as excited as I am.

hello, 2016. it’s going to be a good one.

Have you heard? It’s 2016. New year. New memories.

The theme for this month? A BRIGHT new year with our latest thought… #GOLDdiggers

Who us? Just a bunch of lil’ #GOLDdiggers.
Our focus for the year isn’t on New Year’s resolutions, but goals. You know those things that are actually attainable. I’ve always been one for coming up with a few very ‘doable’ things that make the year a little better than the last.

On January 1st, we sat down to dinner as a family and came up with three goals for each of us that we could focus on for the year. It was one of the best dinners ever. The kids were adorable and it was so darn cute to listen to what they wanted to focus on. Here’s what we came up with.

This board melts my heart because it is a true depiction of each of my little babies. They are all so uniquely different, which can be witnessed in their own little chalkboard section.

Grayson is my lil’ perfectionist who is a realist in all ways and never deviates from the course. Sawyer, on the other hand, thinks outside the lines and has a serious vision in mind that requires none of my advice or help. Lil’ Londyn was determined to do it ALL BY HERSELF because her older bros did it. No changing her mind. Did it take over 45 minutes? Heck, yes. But, the proud smile was worth every second.

Are you going to be a #GOALdigger too? Come along on the ride and share some of your goals. Remember, a resolution can always be broken, but a goal is something we can continually work towards achieving. Start digging, folks.

chalkboard wall. merry you. merry christmas.

I’m late. Way late. The wall got done, but the post never happened. I think December happened. And, I am still trying to keep up.

For this month, I went the easy route. A chance to take a deep breath and spend time remembering what the season is all about. A little shout out to why I heart December.

The theme for this month? It’s the season of giving.

Part 1. A wreath makes everything easier.
Crunched for time? A wreath makes everything just a lil’ bit easier. I love to use anything decorative if I’m ever in a bind for time. I found this treasure at Home Goods and not only is it adorable, but it smells heavenly.

I also re-used the template from my Thanksgiving board, making my life a little easier as well. Hooray. Just like I shared last month, grab some dictionary pages or something from an old book. Trace the needed letter templates that can be found here. Cut it out and add some twine. Hello, beautiful.

2. Keeping our eyes on the reason for the season.
Two of my favorite lyrics from songs. And, a simple reminder of why  we are celebrating this glorious time of year.

I know, I am a little late to the game. But, who knows, maybe you can use it next year. In the meantime… wishing you a blessed season filled with family, friends and cherished time together.

chalkboard wall. thanks. giving.

November. It’s here. Time for one of my favorite holidays of all, Thanksgiving. I love a chance to share what we are grateful and our thanks to those who fill our lives, big and small.

For this month, some thanks and some giving. A chance to share and see just how lucky we truly are.

The theme for this month? A little thanks and a little giving. Oh, and a place where we get to say thanks.

Part 1. Let’s be thankful and giving. Can I get an amen?
If we repeat it enough do you think it will officially stick? That’s what I am aiming for. And, it is just plain cute. The {giving} banner took about five minutes to make. Promise.

Grab some dictionary pages or something from an old book. Trace the needed letter templates that can be found here. Cut it out and add some twine. Hello, beauty.

Part 2. Just what are you thankful for?
It’s a tradition and I am sticking with it. Kids, what are you thankful for? A little lesson in the abundance of blessings that they have. And, it’s just as meaningful to us adults.

A little magnetic tape, stamps, washi tape and a {free} printable and you have yourself a pretty gosh darn cute chalkboard wall. That’s one thing to be thankful for.

Some {effortless} tricks to make your chalkboard wall the cutest on the block.

chalkboard wall. school style.

It’s hard to believe, but another year is here. What??? I swear my babies should still be in diapers. But no, a little tear is shed as they head off to 2nd grade and kinder. Boo. Can’t they just stay little forever?

I’m thinking that’s a no, so I better make the most of it. A real winner of a chalkboard wall to get them geared up for the school year. Here it is…

For this month, some school inspiration and a reminder of what school is all about.

Our back-to-school chalkboard wall. A place where we get to look at those lil’ cuties all month long.

The theme for this month? First day excitement and a {repeated} memory verse.

Part 1. Memory Verse.
I’ll admit it. It’s a repeat. Partly because I told my kids they have to memorize it and we are still not there. But, mainly because I was laze-y. Regardless, they will learn it, live it and memorize it by the end of September. That’s our goal.

Part 2. School Rocks.
It’s official. School has started. Say, what? A little shout out to my boys as they enter into their kindergarten and 2nd grade year. And, a reminder that they must ‘go there’. Well, wherever that may be.

A little washi tape, first day pictures and some old-school flashcards make this chalkboard wall virtually effortless. Hooray.

The start of the school year is my favorite. Yours too? Wishing you a {stress-less} start to the school year and a chance to celebrate those little ones as they head off to school.

chalkboard wall. summa’ time.

Summer is here. Reminds me of a little song from my younger years… summa’, summa’, summa-time. You know what I’m talking about, right?

For this month, summer fun and summer scripture.

Our summa’ chalkboard wall. A place where we pour all those summer to-do’s in our BUCKET.

The theme for this month? Our bucket list {get er’ done} and a memory verse.

Part 1. Memory Verse.
Yes, they will know it. Learn it. Live it. Well, at least by the end of summer. A little something to keep us all on track, especially with us spending virtually every waking moment together. Mama Bear says we can make it happen.

Part 2. Summa’ Bucket List. {kids love this part.}
We are working our way through the bucket list. When one task is complete we are adding it {with a magical magnet} to our bucket. It’s too cute. We have already moved a few, added a few and started our list. The best part of summer.

chalkboard wall. spring style.

Been awhile, huh? The chalkboard wall is still there, but I have been switching it up a little bit. This year, I am not doing a month-by-month board, instead just kind of rolling with it. For the record, this is hard for me. But, good for me at the same time.

For this month, joy. Just joy.

Our spring chalkboard wall. A place where we shout for JOY.

The theme for this month? Memorizing a verse that is all about being joyful.

Just look at all the things we have to be JOYFUL for. {die. i heart kid writing.}

DSC_0431

Joyful is all on these kiddos’ minds. Sometimes I wish that I could be as joyful as the little ones. If anything, a daily reminder to be joyful always.

May your spring be full of something JOY and a chance for you to find a little joy in everyday things.

chalkboard wall. january. 2015, baby.

You heard it right. 2015, baby. A new year. A new January. A chance to reflect. Revisit. Or better yet, set a goal for yourself.

I’m the same as I was last year. I’m still not a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Instead, I think I’d rather find a {goal} rather than finding something I want to {resolve}. A little way to improve something in my life. Isn’t that what a goal is all about?

For this month, cheers to a new year {welcome 2015!} and a reminder of what a BRIGHT year it will be.

Our January chalkboard wall. A place where we celebrate the first of the year. What better way to start 2015?

DSC_0352

The theme for this month? It’s a bright and happy place.

  DSC_0354-001

Clearly, my little Lulu is pretty excited for the new year. She is ready for some dancing adventures. My little tiny dancer.

chalkboard wall. october. what to do.

It’s October. Yikes. And, I haven’t even put out ANY fall decorations. Life has been a little crazier than usual and I am trying to be “ok” with it. Keyword here, “ok”. The one thing I did accomplish? An October chalkboard wall, so that is at least a starting point.

Our OCTOBER chalkboard wall. A place where we wrote down a few things to check off our October {to do} list. I like to think of it as a way to stay focused and organized. Our list will be the perfect way to fill those “what should we do?” days.

The theme for this month? Things to do as a family.

{a list.}
16 things that we are determined to get done before November arrives.
I am determined to get everything on this list done before November arrives. It is the perfect way to kick off fall and keep those little monsters happy and busy.

{a tip or two.}
You really can make it easy on yourself.
A few tricks I have up my sleeve that help that perfectionist side of me. Sigh.

Just because it’s cute. A few more pictures of this month’s chalkboard wall.
Not so spooky, but a perfect way to bring a little more fall to our house.
Maybe you notice some stripes? My newest addition and pictures coming soon, well once I finish touching up.

chalkboard wall. september. be awesome.

Goodbye summer, hello fall. My opinion? Too quick. I love summer. But, I must admit that there is something extra special about the start of school. Almost magical. Do you feel that way too?

Our SEPTEMBER chalkboard wall. A place where our kiddos are reminded to be awesome, make someone else’s day and start the year off right.  And, one of our household favorites… Oh, snap.

The theme for this month? School is starting. What type of year will we make it?

september 2014 wall

oh, snap. it’s september and time to get serious again.
Three things to keep in mind.

{one.} Don’t forget to be AWESOME.
Kind of important, don’t you think? I am crossing my fingers that this daily reminder will help our little boysies remember just how awesome they are. Inspired by one of my besties who proudly displays this at the bottom of her stairs for her boys to look at each morning they come down. Brilliant.

DSC_0830
DSC_0819

{two.} Give HIGH FIVES and smile.
Kind of important. A kind, smiling kid will make a lot more friends when the school year starts. Well, that and the fact that I just think being nice is a good idea. A perfect way to showcase Mr. G’s adorable little hand and his handwriting {smile}. So cute. High five to you, Mr. G.

DSC_0820

{three.} It’s a new year. Enjoy it, cuties.
What? Two of my babies are leaving me for school? So sad. My big guy is off to 1st grade and my lil’ ball of energy starts TK {transitional kindergarten}. I’m hoping they eat up every minute and second of the fun that is to come. Obviously not quite finished yet, but once we have their first day pictures they will fill the wall for all to see.

DSC_0815-001

For our first day pictures we have started a little tradition with some adorable {poster packs} from the Caravan Shoppe. You can see my original post from last September here.  Eventually, we will have the latest and greatest 2014 shots, but here is a sneak peek at what last years 1st day background looked like.

On another note, I found a little treasure while browsing the aisles at JoAnn’s. In love. In heaven. I just had to test it out on our September wall. Let me introduce you to Washable Liquid Chalk. Some kind of amazing.

DSC_0797

I tried it out on some stencils that I had lying around my craft room. It was ridiculously easy and simple. I chose to go over the liquid chalk to make it look more authentic, but it definitely made the job easier. Want it? Find the Martha Stewart Liquid Chalk here.

I hope your September is magical and you remember to be AWESOME. Enjoy the beginning of the school year and all the growing up that will come.
