reindeer food. fun with kids. magic.

The magic of Christmas. The wonder of the season. Through the eyes of little ones there truly is no better time of year. I love it. I absolutely love listening and watching my own cuties during this holiday season. There is nothing better than keeping that magic alive. I want them to believe in the magic of the season forever. Yes, forever.

What better way to keep that magic alive than with the help of our reindeer friends? Everyone knows that reindeer LOVE food and need a little extra energy during their strenuous night travels. So, I come bearing gifts. Reindeer Food. Yes, a fabulous way to get in the spirit of the season and spend a little time with your own precious gifts.  {side note: my kids call every animal with antlers “reindeer”. I don’t correct them because I think it is too, too cute.}

My kids absolutely love this family tradition and wait anxiously for the day to make our own reindeer food.

The task is simple. Only a few necessary supplies and a {free} printable tag make this project simple for you and a magical gift for others.

 {you will need}

oats
quinoa
{extra grain, of course}
glitter
mini chocolate chips
{what reindeer doesn’t have a sweet tooth?}
reindeer food labels
hole punch

thick paper
twine or ribbon
small cellophane gift bags

reindeer ingredients

{your task}

step 1. mix together all of the ingredients in a large bowl. no rhyme or reason.
{you might even have some other treasures in your pantry that the reindeer would love.}

step 1. print the template that you can find {here}.

step 2. cut the tags out of the attached template and hole punch.

step 3. place a handful of reindeer food in a clear, cellophane bag.

step 4. loop some twine. add the gift tag. tie it in a bow. give to some friends and spread the cheer.

There is a good chance that your kids might really just be into it for the chocolate chips. This was the little lady’s first time helping us and she wouldn’t take her eyes {or fingers} off those little chocolate morsels. How can I say no to that cute face?

The {final} step of the task is simple. On Christmas Eve sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn, roof, steps and wherever else might best attract those flying creatures. No reindeer will be able to pass up the goodies that are spread on Christmas Eve and Santa will be sure to stop at your house.

Start mixing and package up these adorable little treasures and gift away. Pass them to friends, neighbors and anyone who might need a little magic in their life. My {big } has a December birthday, so we are known for passing these out as birthday favors. I love hearing about how his friends sprinkle their reindeer food and create traditions of their own.

    Will be doing making this for sure, as Melina is more obsessed with the reindeer than even Santa. BONUS, we have all the ingredients! Might not be as pretty as your though!
